# Inhibitory Control
- A good survey:
[Executive Functions](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4084861/)
from National Library of Medicine.
- The first of three [[executive-functions|Executive Functions]].
## Elements
- _Interference Control_, which can be at two levels:
- _Perceptive Inhibition_ = Selectively paying attention, aka _inhibitory
control of attention_.
- _Cognitive Inhibition_ = Suppressing prepotent mental representations,
resisting emotions and thoughts, including _intentional forgetting_.
- _[[self-control|Self-control]]_ = Control over _behavior_ or control over
emotions in service for control over behavior.
- Resisting _temptations_ and not acting impulsively.
- Having the _discipline_ to stay on task despite _distractions_/_temptations_
to give up/leisure/more interesting tasks. Which is related to the final
aspect of self-control:
- _[[delay-of-gratification|Delaying gratification]]_.
> [!bug] Interference Control seems not to be the issue. It's Self-Control!
